About Me

My name is Jamie Wright. I am a freelance video editor and filmmaker.

I have worked on a number of feature length and short subject films, music videos, found footage projects, and promotional spots. Having experience in both documentary and narrative, I enjoy an array of different styles and modes of storytelling. Filmmaking to me has always been about an intersection between traditional practices and modern innovation. A fan of mixed media and archival materials as well as simple animations and montage, I am committed to making the viewers experience as rich as possible.

I am interested in human interest pieces. Films about the story behind the story, the origins of peoples motivations and intriguing historical events. I love learning about history and the stories behind & within various subcultures and locations. Some of my favorite films and series certainly had their own unique styles, but didn’t sacrifice good storytelling for it. Aesthetic is only as good as the substance it is enhancing.

In addition to video editing, I also have experience as a cinematographer, event photographer, and director. Although editing is my main passion. I also am available for transcriptions, event photography, and graphic design.

EVERYTHING IN HARDWARE

Everything In Hardware is a documentary short I recently directed.

The Bindley Hardware Company was a hardware wholesaler and retailer at the turn of the 20th century in Pittsburgh, PA.  Over 100 years after its retirement, the Bindley family’s only surviving ancestor, Jon Bindley, has re-invented the hardware seller as an American roots band.   Alongside some of the city’s foremost historical institutions, Jon personally pieces together his family’s timeline. With recovered Bindley Hardware artifacts and ephemera in tow, Jon comes to understand what it means to be a son of the rust belt and how everything and everyone is part of a long line of reinterpreted tradition.

Encapsulating local Pittsburgh imagery, original music by Jon & his band, interviews with historians and artists, and even a fact finding mission to Southern Florida, Everything In Hardware follows an idea from realization to reinvention.
